Anti Serum (Equine)
Equine Rabies Immunoglobulin (ERIG) products, including brands such as Equirab, Vinrab, and other similar preparations, are used to provide immediate passive immunity against rabies following severe animal bites or high-risk exposure. ERIG is derived from purified equine (horse) antibodies and is commonly administered together with anti-rabies vaccines as part of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), especially for Category III exposures involving deep bites, scratches, or saliva contact with broken skin or mucous membranes. While anti-rabies vaccines help the body gradually develop its own protection, ERIG works immediately by helping neutralize the rabies virus at the wound site during the early stages after exposure. These products are typically infiltrated around the wound area under medical supervision and are widely used in hospitals, Animal Bite Treatment Centers (ABTCs), and emergency care settings. Proper cold-chain storage at 2°C to 8°C is essential to maintain product stability and effectiveness.
